Back Cove Trail Description:
One of the oldest and most popular of the trails in Portland , this beautiful loop around Portland 's Back Cove offers great views of the Portland skyline. Ideal for walking, running, biking and dog walking. Benches along the trail provide excellent spots for bird (and people) watching. There are two water fountains (seasonal) and an emergency phone, seldom if ever needed. Portable toilets are available seasonally in the parking areas at Preble Street Extension and Payson Park . Loop trail with stone dust and paved surfaces. The trail is mostly flat with a slight rise along the stretch that parallels I-295. The Back Cove Trail connects to the Eastern Promenade Trail under Tukey's Bridge. 3.5 miles

Parking is available in the lot off Preble Street Extension and on the north side of Baxter Boulevard at Payson Park.
