Baxter Woods Description:
Baxter Woods is a 30-acre nature preserve offering towering pines, river views and quiet, shaded trails suitable for foot and bike traffic. Great off-leash area for dogs. The park is open from dawn to dusk. A large informational sign marks the start of the main trail from the Stevens Avenue side. Due to large tree roots on some of the smaller trails, wheelchairs and strollers should stick to the main trail, which runs from Stevens Avenue to Forest Avenue.
Winding flat dirt trails form a loop through the woods. The trails connect to Evergreen Cemetery by crossing Stevens Avenue . To continue your walk to Back Cove, cross Forest Avenue at Walton Street and continue down Walton to the site of the former Baxter School. A driveway cuts through Baxter School property to Irving Street. Cross Ocean Avenue and continue on Irving Street to Codman Street. Cut over on Clinton to reach Vannah Avenue where you can cross Baxter Boulevard to Back Cove.
