Fore River Bridge

Project manager extraordinaire George Potter reports that on December 1, 1994, with the help of Reed and Reed Contractors, Portland Trails' 90-foot pedestrian bridge was lowered into place over the Fore River at Stroudwater Crossing, effectively creating a new 85-acre city park. After more than four years of seeking permits and funding, Portland Trails and Maine Audubon Society take particular pride in accomplishing this project and in giving access to the Fore River Sanctuary. In our first capital campaign, we raised $115,000 to fund the bridge's purchase and installation.
We never could have implemented this important link without the support of so many individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations. You are the reason why Portland Trails has enjoyed such success and momentum. We will hold a joint dedication ceremony on Saturday, June 3rd, to honor our supporters.
The Fore River Bridge installed at last!
