Coastal Flood Monitoring Meetup

April 11 @ 7:30 am - 8:30 am

Free

We know that the sea level is rising, but what does that actually look like in Portland?

Through a partnership with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI), Portland Trails is hosting a Coastal Flood Monitoring event to answer that question. On April 11th, grab a coffee and start your day with us! We'll meet at low tide to observe the effects of the astronomical high tide on the Kendall Street Beach. We'll collect data for GMRI's statewide database in order to help experts better predict the effects of future sea level rise, coastal flooding, and storm surges.

Things to know:

  • We'll meet here, at the end of Kendall Street. If you're driving, please be respectful of the neighbors as well as any parking signs.
  • This event will be held rain, snow, or shine, so dress for the conditions! Wear weather-appropriate shoes that you can walk short distances in.
  • If there is severe weather that's unsafe for participants, we will cancel the event and notify all registrants by email.
  • Participants will submit their observations/data using their phones. Please make an account on GMRI's website before the event. Click here to create a username and password. If you're unable to use your phone, paper data sheets will be available.

See you there!
