Vernal Pools Guided Walk

April 25 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Free
Shallow pool of water with trees and other green plants in the background

Join us for a guided walk on Saturday, Apr. 25th to explore some of Portland’s vernal pools, led by two Maine Master Naturalists.

On this walk in Baxter Woods, we’ll visit seasonal, shallow ponds known as vernal pools to find signs of their springtime inhabitants. We’ll learn about the unique features of these critical habitats and the wildlife that depend on them to complete their life cycles. Our guides will help us find evidence of the amphibian and insect life that spawn and develop here in this urban wild space, and they’ll also point out other signs of spring in the woods, including trees and early flowers.

This event is free, but space is limited due to the sensitive habitat. Please sign up in advance!
