Creative Paths Event Series

Join us for Creative Paths, a four-month event series brought to you by Portland Trails and TEMPOart.
In this series, each event invites you to explore the connection between your creative self and the natural world around you. All four events will be led by local experts and artists.

Upcoming events
Learn how to make a basket using locally harvested bittersweet! Take this invasive plant and turn it into something useful – and beautiful. Local artist Kimberley Harding will lead this hands-on workshop.
Kimberley's art installation, The Art of Looking, will be on display on the PATHS Trail during this event. Come early or stay late to check it out.
All supplies will be provided. If you'd like to help collect bittersweet on Tues., August 25th before the event, you can sign up here.
Kimberley Harding (she/her) creates sculptural works using basketry and other fiber techniques. A resident of Portland, Maine, Harding has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. as well as online. Nature, environmentalism, personal experience, and social issues are the sources for her work.
Nature Drawing: A Fundraiser for Queerly ME
Date: Wed., September 9th

Savor September in Maine with a pencil in your hand. Artist Pame Chévez will lead a drawing practice inspired by the sights, sounds, smells, patterns, and emotions you experience surrounded by nature.
This event is a fundraiser for our friends at Queerly ME, a nonprofit statewide community network where LGBTQIA+ people can build strong support systems, share affirming resources, and equitably access the outdoors. All registration fees will be donated to Queerly ME!
Pencils and sketchbooks will be provided for all participants, but please feel free to bring your own materials.
Pame Chévez (she/her) is an artist whose work is at the intersection of art and tech, driven by her curiosity and authenticity. Her work includes illustration, packaging, visual identity, murals, and more.

Path of Motion

Connect to your body with this movement event inspired by a waterfall! Local dance instructor Holly Taylor will lead an intuitive movement workshop next to Jewell Falls, surrounded by foliage and the sound of running water. Wear clothes you feel comfortable moving in!
Holly Taylor (she/they) is a Portland-based movement educator, choreographer, and arts administrator. As an artist and teacher, Holly is interested in the ways moving — and specifically dancing — together can offer us new ways of being together, and foregrounds experimentation, play in curiosity in her projects.

Memory Braiding

What if your memories could take a physical form? Inspired by their work of collecting and holding memory through weaving, artist verónica a. pèrez will lead a workshop where you'll create braided memory nets, each string a memory braided together.
Participants will take a short walk with verónica to see their TEMPOart installation in Fort Allen Park before the workshop begins. All materials will be provided.
verónica a. pèrez (they/them) is a sculptor whose work is deeply rooted in the community and explores themes of erasure, repair, identity, and interdependency. As part of this work, they hold braiding circle workshops where participants engage in intentional conversations about identity while braiding textiles.
