Trail Description

The PATHS Trail, located behind Portland Arts & Technology High School (PATHS) and Casco Bay High School, is a popular neighborhood trail in North Deering. It passes through a quiet stretch of woods and crosses the Dole Brook. In 2020, Portland Trails upgraded the trail to be part of the North Deering Bicycle Byway, a mostly off-street route that connects the North Deering neighborhood to the Back Cove Trail. This trail helps provide active transportation opportunities (like biking and walking) for many residents of Portland.

Parallel to part of the PATHS Trail is an active rail line used by both freight trains and the Downeaster passenger train. Note: Crossing the tracks is not allowed.

The PATHS Trail can be accessed from the PATHS parking lot or at the end of Skylark Rd.

Accessibility Information

This is an Improved Access Trail, designed to be more accessible to people with disabilities, wheelchairs, walking devices, strollers, and new cyclists. This trail has smooth stone dust and boardwalk surface and is a minimum of six feet wide throughout with several benches. There is accessible parking available at both trailheads. Trail accessibility depends on weather and season.
