Thompson’s Point Trail
The section of trail between Congress St. and Frost St. is temporarily closed for pole repairs

Trail Description
Thompson’s Point Trail (formerly known as Fore River Trail) was funded with restoration funds from the Julie N oil spill in Portland Harbor in 1996. The trail opened on the fifth anniversary of the spill, September 27, 2001. The gravel and boardwalk trail runs along the Fore River, beside rail tracks, and through wooded and marsh areas. Updates to the Thompson’s Point Trail have improved the trail surface for better accessibility for all trail users, including commuter bicycle use.
This is a great route to access concert, breweries, and the other amenities on Thompson’s Point from the Libbytown neighborhood and outer Congress St.
The trail section on the western side of Hobart St. features a beautiful, secluded overlook of the Fore River and can be a great place to enjoy a quiet sunset.
To the northwest, a short walk along Congress St. sidewalks will connect you to the Fore River Sanctuary. Please use caution, as there are no crosswalks at this section of Congress St.
